Exciting Career Opportunity Located in Toronto

Director of Aboriginal Relations

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) was established in 2002 in accordance with the Nuclear Fuel Waste Act to assume responsibility for long-term management of Canada’s used nuclear fuel. The selected approach for the long-term management of used fuel is Adaptive Phased Management.

The interests and concerns of Aboriginal peoples have been an integral part of the considerations throughout NWMO’s work. Aboriginal and western worldviews and knowledge systems are each unique. The interweaving of these two worldviews in the implementation of Adaptive Phased Management can bring opportunities to strengthen this work as the communities learn from one another. NWMO established an Aboriginal Policy and continues to work with various community stakeholders including the NWMO Council of Elders, and with Aboriginal organizations at the national, provincial and regional levels.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Aboriginal Relations, the Director of Aboriginal Relations is responsible for ensuring the smooth and accurate development and execution of Aboriginal programs. Bringing strong experience in administration, the Director will lead and oversee the management of contracts, corporate reporting, and engagement files and records; ensuring a solid documentation and records management process.

Directing field offices and a dedicated team, she/he will develop policies and budgets while managing the development of resource programs and funding for Aboriginal communities and organizations. The Director will be a key contributor in strategic planning as well as engaging with communities and organizations to deliver briefings, presentations, information sessions and workshops.
